The Winds Blog
Musings of a 50 year old Leo
All month I’ve been thinking about what to write for
this newsletter. The last few years I’ve sat in my living
room next to a window with my laptop and tapped out
a stream of consciousness. In the next day or two, I
look at it again and typically edit heavily. As is often
the case, my family is my inspiration. From this seat I
can hear the daily hum of my life...my three kids and
Melissa, our friends who live downstairs, Jack and Zoe,
and the assortment of wildlife that live on this property.
I sometimes feel like a voyeur looking out my window
watching my unsuspecting children as they play, argue
and live their lives. I hear them talk about all sorts of
things...Harry Potter, the Frog People (an amphibian
cult that lives on our property) and sometimes me. I
hear them wonder why I’m crabby or why I work so
much or how they could pull off an elaborate trick on
me without me getting suspicious. These glimpses are
always enlightening if not always flattering.
I’m turning 50 and everyone seems to expect
something meaningful and wise to come tumbling out
of my mouth. Frankly, I don’t feel much different. I’ve
learned a lot over the last 50 years...much of it the
hard way. I try to keep a smidge of a wild streak, if for
no other reason than to shock and annoy my children.
I feel lucky to still love and enjoy my work. I don’t
believe I’m close to being at the top of my game, so
if you’re thinking this Leo might retire...don’t give it
another thought. The Winds has enough projects to
keep me busy for another 50 years.
