Age brings wisdom…
Turning 50 has some privileges I’ve noticed. People begin to think of you as old…ahem, I mean experienced. You know, wise… like you finally know something. Gray hair and a steady job can fool a lot of people. Perspective naturally comes with age. It let’s
you in on some of life’s secrets. Secrets you could never know in your 20’s or 30’s. Parents grow old, hearts are broken, you fall in love (again), children grow up and they have the nerve not to need you anymore (except for lunch money and transportation). I suspect I’m like everyone else my age. I mindlessly look in the mirror everyday and basically see my high school graduation picture. Occasionally I take an extra minute and think, is that really me? When did I change? Life has left its mark. I have the lines
on my face to prove it…the death of a parent, aging relatives, friends and siblings, self employed life and the unpredictable world in which my children live. I’ve earned these lines and at 50 it is a privilege to have the face of someone who has lived life.
In a perfect world, the grandest sort of optimism is having a baby. You’re saying, “I’m investing in the future, something larger than the here and now. I’m committing to this forever and always.” It is with great enthusiasm we welcome Miles Henry Gilchrist, born October 19th, into the Winds family. Congratulations Jen and Brian. Please sleep through the night baby Miles and always
listen to what your older sister Eliza says. (Emma told me to write that.)
